Black Friday VS Roman's Revenge

nicki-minaj-wants-be-lil-kim-550x641.jpg

As we all know, the beef was soon to come and it is the best thing to happen in a long time. One of hip-hop's greatest female MCs, Lil Kim response to new comer Nick Minaj's Roman's Revenge with her latest diss Black Friday.

For those who grew up in the 90s knows Lil Kim for her greatest hits, "No Time", "Crush on You", "The Jumpoff", "Magicstick" and many more. She is also known for her vicious lyrics with group Junior M.A.F.I.A. such as "Player's Anthem" and "Get Money", both being in top 20 in Billboard Charts and top 10 in the R&B and Rap Charts. The Queen B has been one of hip-hops favorite ladies for over a decade.

lil-kim-nicki-minaj.jpgLil Kim has one album with fellow group members Junior Mafia, entitled Conspiracy, with most of their songs being top ten in the charts. She followed with four solo albums, Hardcore (#11 Billboard), The Notorious KIM (#4 Billboard), Labella Mafia (#5 Billboard) and The Naked Truth (#6 Billboard). She also is credited in a number of film and television shows. Lil Kim was also sentenced to a year and a day in prison in 2006 for conspiracy and perjury. Since then she has done Dancing with the Stars and acted in various television shows. The Queen is far from done but there is a new female MC with a similar look and  the controversy has begun.

kim-and-nicki-feat.gifNicki Minaj, who was discovered by Cash Money's own Lil Wayne, has been gaining everybody's attention. With her numerous appearances on some of the hottest tracks such as Kanye's "Monster", Usher's "Little Freak", Trey Songz "Bottoms Up" and many more, she has become a household name early in her career. She is also known for her mixtapes and sassy lyrics with group Young Money. Nicki has recently dropped her debut album entitled Pink Friday, which reached 16 in the Billboards and is the first female artist to have seven singles on the billboard at one time. Nicki has had over 10 nominations and winning 7 of them. She is new in the game but is climbing the charts very rapidly but does she has what it take to be the next Queen B. Many have compared the two and some might say she is trying to be Lil Kim but no one will never know the truth.

Lil%27+Kim+-+Black+Friday.jpgNicki-Minaj-Romans-Revenge-FanMade.jpg

The BEEF has officially started once Nicki Minaj aka Barbie released her single "Roman's Revenge" featuring Eminem. In the song Nicki doesn't say Kim's name but it doesn't take a genius to know who she's talking about.

Some of the lyrics read: "Nicki, she just mad that you took the spot" Word, that b***h mad ’cause I took the spot? Well, b***h, if you ain’t s*****n’, then get off the pot. Got some ***** out in Brooklyn that’ll off your top....

It's clear who she is talking about being that Lil Kim is from Brooklyn, but who are we to say?

Don't worry though Lil Kim replies in her diss "Black Friday" with: Who the f**k want war, FedEx beef straight to your front door, It’ll be a murder scene, I’m turning Pink Friday to Friday the 13th, Aight you Lil Kim clone clown, all this buffoonery, the s**t stops now, time for you to lay down, I’m sick of the fraud, I put hands on this b***h like a spa massage....

With these two going at it, its definitely about to make a lot of people happy, with the return of Lil Kim, this would bring great sales if she came out with another album. I like Nicki Minaj and thinks she is a great artist but my loyalty is to the Queen B and it would be great to have her bring the hip-hop world another album.

My Favorite Gossip!

Many of you may be fans of the popular urban gossip blog web site Mediatakeout.com. According to Quancast.com it is ranked at 273 in US charts. It is viewed by more than 700,000 viewers globally. Over 50% women and over 60% African Americans view the web site. Media Take Out was founded by Washington D.C. native Fred Mwangaguhuna, a former corporate lawyer.

I am also a fan of Media Take Out as any other gossiper, I love to know what is going on with my favorite celebrities but sometimes it can get a bit out of control. Media Take Out is known for praising and uplifting African Americans and African American celebrities but has also been known to bash and humiliate them as well. The web site does not write only about African Americans but most of their stories are about Black people and as an urban web site, it is imperative that we stay positive towards our race. It is ridiculous and embarrassing how the writers of the website ridicule people in their story posts.

However, Media Take Out claims to get their sources through BET, TMZ, MTV and more but, if you ever read what they say, it's always from a MTO reader or anonymous celebrity snitch. How creditable is an anonymous snitch really?

Media Take Out is becoming the rumor starter for many celebrities, with lack of evidence. Beyonce being on of the biggest examples, she has been exploited as being pregnant about 6-8 times now. But, where's the evidence?  I now only read some stories just for entertainment purposes now. Their information isn't creditable or reliable enough to believe the hype.

Hopefully, Media Take Out can have some better creditable stories and give up the lies because if not, they just might get sued for deformation.

Just another day in the gossip world!

Motion Picture Association of America

motion-picture-association-of-america.jpg
Ever heard of MPAA, well it stands for Motion Picture Association of America. MPAA is a non-profit business and trade association. The MPAA website contains information on film ratings and the rating system.

The MPAA Ratings Are:

G-General Audiences: All Ages Admitted
PG-Parental Guidance Suggested: Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children

PG-13-Parents Strongly Cautioned: Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13

R-Restricted: Children Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian
NC-17-No One 17 and Under Admitted

Not only does MPAA's website contain information about film ratings, it provides information about Content Protection, Policy & Research and the latest news on film and ratings.

I like this website because as a young videographer and filmmaker, I can educate myself to what certain ratings mean and what is the appropriate rating for each of my future films. It also will help me with content laws and copy writing. I also believe a lot of production companies and film festivals use this website in order to correctly rate films.

According to MPAA's news press release, there has been several recent stories of online theft and copyright infringement. They also give links to sites with issues important to Motion Picture Association of America.

The website also features external links to other websites with further details in ratings, copy writes and content laws.

This website is fabulous and it has been wonderful to learn and study.

What is TEDTalk?

Many of you may be wondering what TEDTalk or TED.com is, well for those of you who wonder, TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, is a small non-profit group who are devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading.

In the video below, TED's Executive Director Chris Anderson gives a presentation on how web video powers global innovation. In his speech, Chris first jokes about how overwhelming it can be to speak in front of such a large crowd, then proposes an idea that would help generate large crowds.

Chris's main subject is dancing and how web video creates a cycle of improvement. He suggests that it's a crowd accelerated innovation. By this he means to draw a crowd who share the same common interest. He also talks about how the feedback lets people know that web videos are evolving and becoming more popular. Chris also believes that this technology will allow the world to share their talents digitally. I agree with Chris completely because web video has become very influential in the passed 10 years. Not only is it a way to market oneself, it can be very informative and educational. I myself have start to watch web videos more often, whether it's for entertaining purposes or general information. It is also another way to market one's talent and has been known that many people have been discovered in the entertainment industry by their talents on videos by website such as YouTube.

I don't think Chris inspired his audience however, I do believe he grasp their attention and they were able to relate and understand his point. By him grasping their attention he built a trust between himself and the audience. His speech overall did help the audience in a deep understanding but, it was a bit lengthy.

I think it could've been chopped down in length and straight to the point. Overall, it was a good speech, just a little long

The Planned Event

What is DMV International Film Festival and what was your reason for creating this project?

DMV International Film Festival is a film festival dedicated to visual art artists located in Washington D.C.  It is a non-profit organization who has devoted their time towards development and presentation of original stories for new screen media. I created this project because there is so much hidden talent in this area and people don't know it. I have met so many different people from the DMV who love and appreciate their craft and are trying to make it to Hollywood. So may people want to be directors, actors and producers but don't grind hard as if they really want it. This film festival will determine the difference between the people who are serious about their craft and those who enjoy film as a hobby.

What are some core steps you follow during to the film festival week?

Last years festival was held between June 25, 2010 and June 30, 2010. Each day there is a screening block, where the public can come and view the feature films, short films or music videos. After the screening process we select 25-50 feature films and 15-30 short films to play in one of the 5 festival programs. As
films are viewed in their entirety, we try to keep the selection process as fair as possible. The films that are selected to be in the 5 programs are eligible for Jury Prizes (prize chosen by jury). Eligibility for each program varies.

How is DMVIFF funded?

We have several supporter and sponsors who donate and provided venues, money, equipment, etc. I did undergrad in Charlotte, NC, lived in Atlanta, GA and attended University of East London for my Master's. I have traveled over the United States and entered in several film festivals, so I have done my share of networking and always keep in touch with the right people. There is also a fee for submitters who want to submit there work into the film festival and fees to attend the different events. Our budget is quite small because it's still a small business and have only succeeded the first year.  We are currently preparing for the 2nd DMVIFF being held June 10, 2011-June 12, 2011. It will be available for independent filmmakers, artists, musicians, etc.

What Is A Team

Working in a team can be important to any industry because it contributes more than one idea. Each person in a team delivers something different but all members are trying to achieve one goal. The film industry is a team effort because you need more than one person to do each task.

For example, when filming a movie, the contributor are as follows:
Producer
Director
Editor
Camera Operator
Cast
Sound Production
+more

There are smaller teams within this big one.

Putting a team together is all about networking. It's not only who you know but who
When I am creating a project, I look for people who not only have the experience but who has good networking and can create a team within their section.

Communication between a team can be different depending on the situation. Most people in the film industry use interpersonal communication. If they are separated throughout different states, there are many sources of communication, whether it's video chat, chat or email.

Teams can be very beneficial for any industry.

I am an ambitious woman with goals and dreams. I am a boss lady, a hustlette (female hustler), I work hard and I grind for what I want. I actually started out writing, I've been writing since I was around 12 or 13 years old. I had been writing for so long, people started telling me I needed to let people hear it, so hear I am. Letting people know about the life of everyday women. I rap for the single mothers, hardworking women and just our everyday lives. Men need to know what goes on in our head and i'm a represent us to the end.

When you say you are the boss lady, what do you mean?

Can Halle Berry play The Queen of Soul?

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin has decided to turn her New York Times Best-Selling Autobiography Aretha: These Roots into a feature film. The Queen has spoken, and has negotiated to have some of  the biggest names in black Hollywood to star in her highly anticipated biopic.
According to Black Voices Newswire, Aretha Franklin has been quietly meeting with today's leading black actors and actresses, including Denzel Washington and Terence Howard.
Denzel Washington told Franklin he's open to playing the role of Franklin's father, Rev. C.L. Franklin. Oscar-nominated Terrence Howard agreed to portray her dear friend and former Miracles front man, Smokey Robinson. Nia Long is being asked to play the Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree's sister, Erma Franklin, and she wants heartthrob Blair Underwood on board to play her brother and longtime manager, Cecil Franklin.

The 18-time Grammy Award winner says, "These actors are enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles subject to further negotiation."

Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry has been the Queen of Soul's top pick to play her younger self. Halle Berry's outstanding performance in the portrayal of famed actress Dorothy Dandridge in 'Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, leading her to win an Emmy and the Golden Globe Award.

Franklin has also seek out the best in gospel music to take on the roles of members of the world-renowned gospel group, the Ward Singers. Karen Clark Sheard and LaShun Pace are being asked to portray the women who most influenced Franklin's career.

Other potential actors for the film:
  • Mo’Nique
  • Gabourey Sidibe
  • S. Epatha Merkerson
  • Jennifer Hudson
  • Fantasia
  • Lisa Nicole Carson

I think these are some great actors to play the roles of Franklin's camp but I'm not sure about Halle Berry. She is a wonderful actor but I think this role s more fitting for someone like Queen Latifah. She has been dominating lately in the box office and this role has her name written all over it.

Re-makes and Predictions

Why are almost all of the directors re-making old films? Where has the talent gone? I mean with the re-make of Halloween 1 & 2, Nightmare on Elm Street, and many more, it's becoming tired. I'm tired of seeing movies being re-made and they aren't even better than the original.  Not only are the movies being re-made but they're so predictive. I'm tired of every movie I watch, I know the outcome. Don't get me wrong there are films that I enjoy but there are even more that I can predict the outcome of the movie. Does anybody agree or do you think I'm hating. Let me know!
